(Notice: Put on your flight helmet, grab your mad-catz controller, and blast that Eurobeat soundtrack. We are diving deep into the skies of Strangereal!)
Introduction: Welcome to the Danger Zone, Ace!
Listen up, wingman! If you have spent any time dodging missiles in the Ace Combat series, you already know the deal. Sure, playing chicken in a real-life F-14 Tomcat or an F-16 Fighting Falcon is cool and all… but where is the fun if you aren’t dogfighting a giant laser-blasting flying fortress over a fictional ocean?
Project Aces has blessed us over the decades with some of the most radical, sci-fi, anime-inspired death machines ever rendered on a console. From chunky PS1-era polygons to high-definition 4K super-jets, we are breaking down nearly every single original aircraft and super-weapon in Ace Combat history.
Strap in. We have a lot of ground to cover, and radar is lighting up red!

Part 1: Real-Life Jets… But Make It Sci-Fi!
A lot of the coolest fictional planes in the series actually started out as real-world military concepts before Project Aces shoved experimental tech and futuristic canards onto them. Let’s look at the heavy hitters:
- AF-117X Nav Hawk: Imagine an F-117 Nighthawk, but you literally plug your nervous system directly into the airframe using COFFIN (Connection For Flight Interface). Say goodbye to canopies; say hello to total cybernetic integration!

- ATD-0: A fictional spin on Japan’s real-life Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin stealth testbed. Senior director Masato Kono wanted it in the game so bad he made it happen in Ace Combat Infinity. Basically, it is an F-22 on energy drinks.
- EF-2000E Typhoon II & F-16XF Gyrfalcon: UPEO and the GRDF love taking standard European fighters and American falcons, ripping out the cockpit glass, and slapping on full COFFIN control systems.
- F-15S / F-15SMT Eagle Plus: Debuting way back in Ace Combat 2, this is the iconic F-15 with added canards that gave every 90s kid a serious tech-boner. The SMT variant is essentially an Eagle on absolute steroids.

- FA-32C Erne: Boeing’s X-32 design lost the real-world Joint Strike Fighter competition to Lockheed’s X-35 (our modern F-35). Project Aces picked the loser for the game, turning it into the GRDF’s primary stealth fighter named after a sea eagle!
- MQ-101: The backbone of the massive Arsenal Bird fleets in Ace Combat 7. These UAVs are heavily inspired by Northrop Grumman’s X-47B carrier drones.

- Su-43 Berkut: Sukhoi designated their real-life forward-swept wing beast as the S-37 during testing, but Project Aces pushed the number up to Su-43 for future-proofing. Shortly after, Sukhoi officially named it the Su-47. Talk about predicting the future!
- XFA-36A Game: Loosely based on McDonnell Douglas’s experimental remote-controlled X-36 demonstrator.

FUN FACT: If you had a nickel for every time an aircraft in Electrosphere was described as “COFFIN-equipped,” you would have at least 45 cents by the end of the mission!
Part 2: 100% Pure, Unadulterated Fiction & Super Weapons
Now we are getting into the real good stuff—airframes that never existed on Earth, dreamed up by mad scientists and legendary mecha designers.
The Legendary Aces & Fighters
- ADF-01 Falcon & ADF-11F Raven: The crown jewels of North Osea Gründer Industries. The Raven features a detachable cockpit that can fly entirely on its own as an AI drone. Absolute nightmare fuel for dogfights!

- ADFX-01 Morgan: Developed by South Belka Munitions. Famous for its massive tactical laser, experimental MPBMs, and the uncanny ability to summon Spanish guitars out of nowhere during the climactic boss fight in Ace Combat Zero.

- ASF-X Shinden II: Designed by legendary Macross creator Shoji Kawamori for the Assault Horizon universe. It’s sleek, aggressive, and features variable geometry wings that scream 90s anime mech magic.

- CFA-44 Nosferatu: Estovakia’s sixth-generation carrier-based stealth nightmare. It packs dual railguns, all-direction multi-purpose missiles, and parasite UAVs. If you fought Ilya Pasternak in Ace Combat 6, you already know the pain.

- X-02 Wyvern & X-02S Strike Wyvern: The iconic variable-geometry delta-wing beast first seen in Ace Combat 4. Flown by legendary aces, it remains one of the absolute sharpest designs in gaming history.

Skies of Steel: Massive Aerial Warships
- The Arkbird: Osea’s massive orbital super-weapon meant to clear space debris from the Ulysses asteroid impact… until the Gray Men hijacked it for a nuclear light-show.
- The Arsenal Bird: A colossal propeller-driven flying aircraft carrier protecting the space elevator in Ace Combat 7. It pumps out 80 MQ-101 drones and projects an impenetrable energy shield.

- P-1112 Aigaion & Support Fleet (Kottos & Gyges): Estovakia’s monstrous heavy command cruiser group from Ace Combat 6. Taking down the Aigaion feels like trying to kill a flying blue whale with a toothpick.

- The Gleipnir & Speeridush: Leasath’s stealthy, optical-camouflage-wearing flying fortresses from Ace Combat X equipped with shockwave ballistic missiles.
Part 3: The Neucom & General Resource Sci-Fi Odyssey (Electrosphere)
We cannot talk about original designs without bowing down to Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, which took place in a totally cybernetic corporate future.

- R-101, 102, and 103 Delphinus Series: Neucom’s sleek, nautical-themed frontline fighters. Named after the Latin taxonomy for dolphins, with the R-103 packing front-mounted canards to show it means business.
- R-352 Sepia: Hold onto your helmets—this is the series’ only playable spacecraft. Launched via rocket booster into the thermosphere, its sole purpose is shooting down hostile satellites using sci-fi plasma beam weapons in a complete vacuum where traditional control surfaces are useless!

- X-49 Night Raven: The ultimate product of General Resources’ “Darkness of Enigma” project. Instead of standard COFFIN, it plugs directly into your nervous system like The Matrix and packs a devastating high-energy laser.

Summary Checklist: The Ultimate Ace Combat Aircraft Stats
| Aircraft Name | Origin Universe | Primary Role / Special Feature |
| XFA-27 | Ace Combat 2 | The ultimate flying Dorito with variable wings. |
