MINNEAPOLIS — Police executed a search warrant at a downtown Minneapolis apartment shared by Adnan Hirsi, the 20-year-old son of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), resulting in the seizure of firearms and ammunition and the arrest of his roommate.
The investigation was launched following a routine traffic stop involving Hirsi’s roommate, 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi. Minneapolis police initially stopped Abdi for driving without insurance or a valid driver’s license. While officers were preparing to impound the vehicle, they discovered a firearm inside.
Search Warrant Executed
Officers subsequently tracked Abdi to an apartment address on Marquette Avenue, which he shares with Hirsi. Law enforcement officers carried out a raid on the residence, recovering additional weapons and ammunition.
Abdi was taken into custody without incident and booked into Hennepin County Jail on weapons-related charges before being released the following evening. Court records show Abdi has a prior criminal record, including a felony conviction for fleeing police officers in a motor vehicle.

However, news of the raid quickly ignited intense political commentary across social media platforms. Conservative commentators and political figures pointed to the incident to criticize the congresswoman, highlighting her prominent national advocacy for strict gun control measures and weapon restrictions.
Neither Representative Omar’s office nor Adnan Hirsi have issued public statements regarding the search or the arrest of the roommate.
