The galaxy far, far away is once again buzzing with speculation as new rumors point toward the continuation of the Skywalker saga. While Lucasfilm has kept a tight lid on its theatrical slate following the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, the persistent whispers surrounding a potential Star Wars Episode 10 have reignited debates across the fandom. As Disney and Lucasfilm navigate the future of the franchise on the big screen, fans and industry insiders are analyzing every clue to determine if a tenth mainline installment is finally becoming a reality.
The State of Star Wars on the Big Screen
In the years following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Lucasfilm shifted its primary storytelling engine to the small screen via Disney+. Series like The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ahsoka have dominated the conversation. However, the cinematic future has remained a subject of intense curiosity.
Several film projects have been announced, delayed, and reshuffled over the years, from Patty Jenkins’ sidelined Rogue Squadron to Taika Waititi’s developing feature and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming New Jedi Order movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey. With the theatrical landscape constantly evolving, the question remains where a prospective Episode 10 might fit into the grand timeline.

Lore Implications: Where Could Episode 10 Take the Franchise?
Continuing the numerical saga past Episode 9 opens up massive storytelling potential for the franchise. A hypothetical tenth installment would likely grapple with the fragile new era of the galaxy.
The New Jedi Order
If Lucasfilm decides to press forward with a direct continuation of the core saga, Rey’s journey to rebuild the Jedi Order stands out as the most logical narrative anchor. Fans have long debated how a new generation of Jedi will differ from the dogmatic ways of the Prequel Era and whether they can permanently secure peace against rising threats.
Lingering Threats in the Unknown Regions
Throughout Disney’s expanded canon—including recent television series and tie-in novels—the threat of the Unknown Regions and remnants of the Empire or entirely new galactic entities have been heavily teased. An Episode 10 could serve as the ultimate payoff for these lingering narrative threads, bringing disparate factions together for a massive cinematic event.
What Lies Ahead for Galaxy Defenders
While official confirmation from Lucasfilm regarding a numbered Episode 10 is still pending, the appetite for a continuation of the mainline saga has never been stronger. Whether the studio decides to advance the timeline with familiar faces or forge an entirely new path in the cinematic universe, the excitement surrounding the future of Star Wars proves that the force remains as strong as ever with the fanbase.
