PHILADELPHIA — Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit are asking for the public’s help to identify a man captured on surveillance video. Police say the suspect is believed to frequent the Manayunk section of the city.

According to investigators, the incident unfolded early New Year’s Day:

The victim and a witness were walking near Cresson and Grape streets when they noticed an unknown white male following closely behind them. Feeling uneasy, the two women quickly entered their residence without interacting with the man.

Roughly 25 minutes later, at approximately 1:55 AM, the victim—who had fallen asleep on the living room sofa—woke up to find an unknown male standing over her and indecently exposing himself. The victim yelled for the man to leave, and he fled the scene.

Following the encounter, the victim discovered that her purse had been moved and its contents dumped onto the floor. Authorities report that $20.00 was stolen, and the victim believes the intruder was the same man who followed them home. A second witness was upstairs on the second floor during the incident and did not interact with the suspect.
