If you’ve been gaming for a long time—or if your parents have—you probably know the name Prince of Persia. It’s one of the most famous series in history, known for parkour, sword fighting, and turning back time.
But the newest game, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, is doing things a little differently, and it’s causing a big stir in the gaming world.
New Look, New Hero
When the game was first revealed, some “hardcore” fans were upset. Why? Because instead of a 3D world that looks like a movie, this new game uses a 2.5D “Metroidvania” style. This means it plays like a side-scroller (moving left to right), but with 3D graphics and a giant map you have to explore.
Also, you don’t even play as the Prince! You play as a new hero named Sargon, a young warrior with dual swords and cool glowing powers.

The Verdict: Is It Actually Fun?
Experts who have played the game for over three hours say the same thing: The movement feels awesome. Sargon jumps, slides, and dashes through the air like a pro. The combat is “fluid,” which is gamer-speak for “it feels smooth and doesn’t lag.”
However, there is a “but.” Some reviewers say that while it’s a lot of fun, it might not be as legendary as the classic Sands of Time games yet. It has to compete with other “king of the hill” side-scrollers like Hollow Knight and Metroid Dread.
Why You Should Care
- The Demo is Free: You don’t have to guess if it’s good. A free demo comes out on January 11th!
- It’s Fast: Because it’s a side-scroller, the action is way faster than the slower 3D games.
- The Puzzle Master: If you like games where you have to use your brain to find secret paths and unlock doors, this game is packed with those.
What’s Next for the Prince?
If you really want the old-school 3D experience, don’t worry. Sony and Ubisoft are still working on the Sands of Time Remake. We don’t know when it’s coming out yet, but it’s still on the way.
The Bottom Line: Don’t let the “cartoony” look fool you. The Lost Crown looks like a high-speed challenge that might just win over the haters once they actually pick up the controller.
