In an unusual move prompted by high-profile claims, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed it will officially investigate allegations made by political commentator Candace Owens that the French government is actively plotting her assassination.
Former Trump administration official Kash Patel, speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show, assured the public that the FBI would not “turn our eye away from” the investigation, stressing that any American who receives an overseas death threat will have their case thoroughly examined.
The Alarming Allegations
The investigation stems from a dramatic public statement made by Owens last month. In a tweet marked “URGENT,” Owens claimed she was contacted by a “high-ranking employee of the French Government” who provided information she deemed credible regarding a direct threat on her life.

Owens stated that this source claimed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife had “executed upon and paid for my assassination.” The alleged plot involves a team from the National Gendamarie Intervention Group, reportedly including “one Israeli,” with plans that were “formalized.”
In her appeal for public attention, Owens voiced deep concern for her safety, connecting this alleged plot to the unsolved assassination of a former colleague. She specifically claimed the source provided “concrete proof” of their high placement within the French government, adding urgency to her disclosures.

The FBI’s Cautious Stance
During the interview, Kelly pressed Patel on the specific claims, particularly regarding foreign governmental involvement in the related assassination case.
While confirming that the FBI is obliged to follow up on the death threat reported by Owens—saying, “If someone feels that their life is being threatened, we are of course looking at it”—Patel emphasized that the bureau currently lacks evidence on the broader, more explosive claims.
Patel stated that, at present, “the FBI doesn’t have credible information to connect any foreign governments” to the related death case and confirmed “zero” reason to believe the victim’s colleagues were involved. However, the commitment to fully investigate Owens’ personal security threat remains firm.
The FBI’s involvement signals the seriousness with which the agency is treating the death threat component of Owens’ claims, regardless of the sensational political context. As the investigation begins, the question remains whether the details provided by Owens’ source can withstand official scrutiny.
