India’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and capital market dealmaking continue to demonstrate robust resilience, weathering macroeconomic headwinds such as a weakening rupee and a broader equity market slump. According to Citi’s India head of investment banking, Ravi Saraf, strong underlying corporate fundamentals and sustained investor confidence are keeping the deal pipeline active despite challenging global and domestic financial conditions.
While currency depreciation and volatile equity valuations typically dampen corporate appetite for transactions, Indian companies are actively pursuing strategic consolidations and growth initiatives. Saraf noted that domestic liquidity and strong corporate balance sheets have cushioned the market against external shocks, ensuring that deal activity remains steady compared to other regional jurisdictions facing steeper declines.
Looking ahead, market participants expect this resilience to persist as foreign and domestic investors maintain a long-term bullish outlook on the Indian economy. Sectors such as technology, infrastructure, and financial services are anticipated to lead the dealmaking momentum, driven by structural reforms and increasing domestic consumption.
